Fun Facts:
Did you know that Walt Disney once kidnapped the Vice President … kind of?
President Richard Nixon attended the grand opening of Tomorrowland's newest attractions. Before the ceremony, Walt Disney took Nixon and his family, along with the Secret Service, for an inspection tour of the monorail at the Tomorrowland station. Excited, Walt told his engineer, Bob Gurr, to give them a test ride. As they pulled away from the station, Mr. Nixon realized that his Secret Service detail had been left behind, and they had playfully 'kidnapped' the Vice President!
After a lap around the park, Nixon’s daughters shouted, “Let’s go again!” Walt instructed Bob to continue, leaving the Secret Service behind once more. Nixon laughed heartily at the situation while Bob Gurr nervously handled the unauthorized passengers.
When they returned to the station, the Nixon family got off, only to see the Secret Service had boarded the train, confused about the Nixons' whereabouts. Nixon joked to his detail, “You should have seen the looks on your faces!”
